27 Nov Corfu port / Shore Excursion: Paleokastritsa & Glass Bottom Cruise
From/To: Corfu port
Duration: 04 hours
Tour Description
Drive to the west part of the island to the picturesque Paleokastritsa where we will visit Virgin’s Mary monastery. The monastery was founded in the 13th century, but there is little to been seen today which is more than 200 years old. Inside however, the modern building is an excellent example of Greek monastic architecture. There is an arched inner courtyard, and a small museum with Byzantine and post-Byzantine icons. The view from the Monastery is superb, with in the foreground the boat of Odysseus (Kolovri).
Continue to Corfu town, for a walking tour in the square and into the narrow roads, to see the old fortress, the Esplanade with the cricket field, the Palace, the Old Town Hall and, the Square with their unique atmosphere.
Further, begin a boat trip with a glass bottom boat, to admire the crystal water in the rocky bays and the fish (approx. 60 minutes). Leaving the port of Alipa, in Paleokastritsa, the boat passes the promontory of St. Nicolaos and the main bay (St. Spyridon), heading to the north. Sail around the peninsula, where the Monastery of Holy Virgin Mary is built and, stop close to the rock “Skeloudi”, to admire a fish diving show, along with the color play of the sea, the deep and the magnificent coastline. Return to the port of Corfu, by passing two other bays of Paleokastritsa (Agia Triada and Platakia).
